• Honours dissertation (72%) in control systems and numerical optimisation — a numerical simulation of a control system for the physical environment of indoor plant growth, with a built experimental model implementing the control system.
• PID gains optimised in Python using various minimisation functions, based on measured parameters, then implemented on a microcontroller for the fastest possible response.
• Control parameters included air temperature, humidity, soil moisture, water pH, water mineral concentration, and light power output.
• Final design project: a Control Rod Drive Mechanism for a Pebble Bed Modular Reactor — a compact chain-drive system with an electromagnetic brake/clutch for power transmission and position sensing, plus high-temperature helium dampers to decelerate control rods from free fall. Initial estimate: lifting and controlling the position of 4-ton control assemblies 9 m high to 1 mm accuracy.

Bootcamp in manufacturing and MEP engineering for practical, in-field experience across fabrication, assembly and wiring/installation.
